Welcome

Welcome to the Three Crowns, an impressive 13th century granite inn situated in the middle of the pretty stannary town of Chagford on Dartmoor.

In a joint venture, St Austell Brewery and established publicans John Milan and Steve Bellman, purchased the Three Crowns in September 2009 and have embarked on a long-term project to restore the inn to its former glory.

Managers, Alex and Lauren Brazier, and their team are working hard to transform the Three Crowns and are delighted by the enthusiastic reception from locals and visitors alike. The lounge bar and dining room have already been refurbished. The refurbishment work on bedrooms in the old part of the building at the front has revealed a number of wonderful old features – as well as a few problems! A staircase, probably dating back to 13th century and due to be listed, is being restored. Early lime plastered walls have been uncovered and are being repaired and some lovely elm floor boards have also been revealed.

In addition to the internal discoveries, the granite façade of the building- famous for its rather picturesque 'lean' into the street, also requires some remedial work – all resulting in a delay to the refurbishment project in the oldest part of the building. But, undaunted, we have re-scheduled other work and, as a result, other bedrooms and bathrooms are being refurbished ahead of schedule! We will keep you updated on progress...

The Three Crowns boasts four real ales, including the renowned St Austell Tribute, and an extensive wine list.

The menu changes daily and our chef, Tony Carr, and his team have already establishing a following. Committed to using local, fresh seasonal produce, Tony is busy sourcing the best meat, game and fish and enjoying exploring the range and quality of produce in this area.

Do pop in and see how the Three Crowns has changed, we'd really like to hear your feedback.
